If you press a spell right as you’re supposed to do an autoattack alongside an ability, you can use both an autoattack and an ability at the same time. If out of combat and you target an enemy and use an ability right after within the same tick, that ability won’t gain adrenaline. A good way to prevent getting scammed for adrenaline is to use Storm Shards to build adrenaline before 10.2 seconds, but if that’s off cooldown make sure to hit the enemy with an autoattack first. You can then get the Gems from the two Ninja Rhynocs who ambush you at the cannon.If you haven’t attacked an enemy for over 10.2 seconds, any basic abilities used will no longer gain adrenaline until you have actively used an autoattack or ability on an enemy.

You may encounter a situation in Fireworks Factory where you can see two Red Gems at the top of the tower near the cannon mid-way through the level. If his Red Gem does fall into the water, immediately switch off the console (PS1) / quit the game (PS3, PSP and Vita) to bypass the game's autosave and try the level again. To avoid this glitch, make sure to lure the Mosquito over solid ground before killing him. Because of the way the piranha water works in this level, any Gems that fall into it aren't automatically returned to Spyro, rendering them lost forever. The Lost Gem Bug is encountered in the Spooky Swamp level, at two points after the Moneybags door where Mosquitos are flying near water. Just make sure you have the correct Virtual Memory Card loaded via Assign Slots.

If you’re playing on PSP or PSVita, connect the handheld to a PS3 via a USB cable and copy the bugged save over, then play the game off the disc on the PS3, get the Egg and then copy the save back. The only thing to remember is that for PAL regions, the digital copy of the game available on the PSN store is actually an NTSC version, thus this trick won't work in that situation. If you’re playing on PS3, PSP or PSVita, option 4 can absolutely work because the disc will be able to load your save via the console’s Virtual Memory Card.
If you find the race too hard, use the Adjust Difficulty cheat to lower your ACT rating so your opponents aren't so far ahead.
